Talks
INTBAU World Congress
On 28th November 2018 Dr Giamila Quattrone presented at the INTBAU World Congress, a biennial forum bringing together global perspectives and knowledge for discussion and debate of pressing issues facing the built environment in communities around the world.
In her paper Nurturing Identities, Empowering Communities: Adaptive Reuse and Restoration at Misfat al-Abriyin, Oman she talked about recent work done by ArCHIAM in the Omani traditional village of Misfat al-Abriyin to deliver heritage policies, pioneer their phased implementation through the development of existing building structures and open spaces, and support the establishment of heritage- and tourism development- focused community cooperative.
A unique public-private stakeholder collaboration between the Omani Government, Bank Muscat Corporate Social Responsibility and the Misfat community, this project has offered the unprecedented opportunity to empower local communities while nurturing their identities, and influence best practice in heritage management and development in Oman with a potential for scalability and transferability to the wider Middle Eastern context.
